Do You Need Lube? Common Lubricant Myths | She's Got The Vibe

Lube Isn’t Just for When You’re “Dry” — And Other Things We Need to Stop Believing 😂

Somewhere along the way, lube got a bit of a reputation.

Apparently, if you use lube, your body isn’t doing its job.

Or you’re not turned on enough.

Or something must be wrong.

Can we please throw that entire idea in the fucking bin? 😂

Because lube isn’t a sign that anything is wrong.

Lube is a tool.

And a bloody good one at that.

Being turned on and being naturally lubricated aren’t the same thing

This is probably one of the biggest misconceptions.

Your brain can be screaming YES PLEASE while your body is apparently still waiting for the memo. 🤦🏼♀️

Natural lubrication can change for SO many reasons — hormones, stress, medications, your cycle, breastfeeding, menopause, hydration and about a million other things life likes to throw at us.

And sometimes?

There’s no particular reason at all.

It doesn’t automatically mean you’re not aroused, not attracted to your partner or that something is wrong with you.

Even if you don’t “need” lube… you might still WANT it

Here’s the other thing nobody seems to mention enough:

Lube can just make things feel better.

More glide.
Less friction.
More comfort.
Different sensations.

That’s reason enough.

You don’t have to wait until sex is uncomfortable before reaching for it.

Think of it less as something you use to fix a problem and more as something you can add because…

Oooh. That’s nicer. 😂

Not all lubes are the same

Walk into the world of lubricant and suddenly there are water-based, silicone-based, hybrid, flavoured, warming, cooling and goodness knows what else.

So here’s the very basic version.

Water-based lube is generally a brilliant all-rounder. It’s easy to clean up and commonly compatible with toys and condoms. It may need to be reapplied because it can dry out faster.

Silicone-based lube usually lasts longer and can be fantastic when you want lots of slip without constantly reapplying. But you need to check compatibility with silicone toys.

Specialty lubes can add things like flavour, warming or cooling sensations — these are more about adding something different to play.

You don’t need twelve bottles sitting beside your bed.

Although I am absolutely not judging you if you do. 🤣

You just need the right one for what you’re doing.

Your vibe deserves the right lube too 😏

If you’re using toys, please don’t grab the nearest bottle without checking what it is.

Some lubricant and toy-material combinations don’t play nicely together.

Water-based lubricant is often the easiest option when you’re unsure, but always check the instructions for your particular product.

And if you bought your toy from me and have absolutely no idea?

Message me.

I’d rather get a “Hey Amy, can I use this lube with this vibe?” message than hear that you’ve accidentally destroyed your new favourite toy. 😂

More lube isn’t always the answer either

This is important.

If something hurts, don’t assume you just need another bucket of lube and keep going.

Discomfort can happen for lots of reasons and pain is your body’s way of telling you something isn’t right.

Stop. Adjust. Communicate.

And if pain during intimacy is persistent or unexplained, it’s worth speaking with an appropriate healthcare professional.

Sex and intimacy aren’t supposed to be an endurance event.

Can we just make lube normal already?

That’s really the point of this entire rant. 😂

Using lubricant doesn’t mean:

❌ You’re not turned on.
❌ Your partner isn’t doing a good job.
❌ Your body has failed.
❌ Your sex life has a problem.

It means…

You decided you’d like some lube.

That’s it. 🤣

The more we actually talk about this stuff, the less awkward it becomes.

And that’s a huge part of what I’m trying to create with The Vibe Effect.

Real conversations.

Better information.

More confidence asking for what you want.

And a lot less embarrassment about completely normal things. 🩷

So whether you use a little, a lot, occasionally or have a bloody bedside dispenser…

You do you.

Preferably with adequate lubrication. 😂
